Finally, fresh air has been making more frequent visits. Even the Nafas app is pleased, with the sensor points across various regions predominantly showing green (good) and yellow (moderate) readings. This includes the Jabodetabek area in recent days!

In the first week of 2024, air pollution conditions in Jabodetabek during the morning to afternoon often reached unhealthy levels. What could be causing this?

Once again, this situation was supported by an inversion layer, a condition where warm air is trapped above cold air, limiting air circulation and increasing the accumulation of pollutants in the air.

As a result, there was a spike in pollution, reaching up to 60 μg/m3 on January 7th and 15th, 2024. This air quality led to an unpleasant grayish sky, even when the pollution decreased to 37 μg/m3 at 11:00 AM.

Entering the second week of January 2024, the skies over Jabodetabek became brighter and clearer! Thanks to the strong winds from the Sunda Strait that helped disperse pollutants from Jabodetabek on January 12th.

Unfortunately, this condition did not last long as air pollution gradually rose again, reaching 60 μg/m3 by midnight on January 15th, 2024.

Although the early days of 2024 in Jabodetabek were marked by fluctuations in air pollution levels, the Jakarta sky finally showed a positive change as strong winds from the Sunda Strait aided in clearing the air in mid-January.

The atmospheric dynamics serve as a reminder that air quality can change rapidly. Therefore, it is crucial to always check air quality before engaging in outdoor activities!
